Eperara-Siapidara / Single
from Pet LampsHandcrafted in Bogotá, Colombia
PET Lamp Eperara-Siapidara is the very first collection from PET Lamp, a series of lamps that combine PET plastic bottles with natural fibres. It was conceived as a project emerged as the possibility to approach a global problem, PET plastic bottles, with a local activity, the basket weaving tradition.
Hand-made by colombian artisans from the Cauca region, this collection shows the typical colombian character in the colorful dyes used and the freshness of the paja tetera fibre.
PET Lamp is a unique product, so there could be changes regarding the patterns and colours of the lamps from the ones shown. It is part of the concept of the product itself this randomness regarding patterns and colours. The shapes of the lamps are standard on the contrary patterns and colours are chosen directly by the colombian artisans, who apply their traditional drawings and pigments freely. This randomness allows them to imprint somehow their ancient cosmogony on the products.
The lamps are made out of hand-woven textile and recycled plastic water bottles. Shown models are samples only.

Brand story
PET Lamp Project, founded by Alvaro Catalán de Ocón, is part of an ongoing mission to revitalise weaving craft among indigenous communities around the world. PET Lamp is a consolidated project that merges the reuse of PET plastic bottles with selected traditional weaving techniques from different corners of the world in order to create unique handmade lampshades.
Starting in Columbia five years ago, the Spanish designer has since worked with groups in Japan, Ethiopia, Chile and now Australia, with each community bringing their unique traditions to their interpretations.
